Season of Love and Giving

Welcome December!

This is it! The last month of the year! I already smell the holiday season... Family gatherings, treats, get-together and parties... But this year, most of the government agencies decided to donate their Christmas party funds to all the survivors of the Super Typhoon Yolanda. Our school will still have the party, but it was decided to hold it not too lavishly. We will just have a simple dinner in our covered court. This is to show our sympathy with all our fellow countrymen in the Visayas region who were still mourning for their losses.

Another thing that makes me excited during this season is the Simbang Gabi (Night Mass). This is part of Filipinos' family tradition, particularly those who are Roman Catholic. The goal is to complete the attendance for the nine-series mass, so that one could make a wish to Jesus. For us Filipinos, it becomes part of our devotion every December. After every mass, another thing that we are looking forward are the iconic foods like puto bungbong, bibingka and other kakanin, which are within or around the premises of the church.

All over the world, Christmas is celebrated as the season of love and giving. This is the time that we could share our blessings. Giving gifts not only to the ones we love, but also those who are in need.
